Intermec Technologies Demonstrates RFID, Wireless Convergence and Data Collection at Wi-Fi Planet
December 02, 2003

Company: Intermec Technologies Corp
Industry: Location-based Services (LBS)
Location: San Jose, CA, United States of America

SAN JOSE, CA - Intermec Technologies Corp will demonstrate radio frequency identification (RFID) as a part of the company's entire data capture solution at this week's Wi-Fi Planet Conference and Exposition, booth 126, held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.

"Intermec has invested more than 20 years in helping to develop RFID technology. Now our customers are enjoying the 'overnight success' of this newly popular technology," said Intermec Director Dan Bodnar, who leads Intermec's wireless group."Intermec is the only company with all the products and expertise necessary to complement RFID for a successful implementation - from mobile computers, wireless communications, bar code printing and scanning, to software tools and professional services. We cover it all." Intermec also will demonstrate the 760 Color mobile computer equipped with the company's Intellitag® IP3, an RFID reader configured as an accessory handle for the device. The IP3 adds the ability to read and write to Intellitag RFID tags to all Intermec 700 Series Color mobile computers.

The Intermec 700 Series is the only family of mobile computers in the marketplace to combine RFID and three radio communication capabilities, including a wireless local area (802.11b) radio, a GPRS/CDMA wide area network radio and a fully integrated power-managed Bluetooth ™ radio. This powerful range of communications options allows users to make voice calls and access enterprise data wirelessly through high-speed packet data networks.

"The 760 clearly demonstrates that wireless enterprise communications do not stop with Wi-Fi," said Dan Park, Intermec director of wireless product marketing."With the convergence of local area and wide area networks, mission-critical mobile communications can extend out into the parking lot, to hot spots, and then on through the wide area wireless carriers."

The 760 Color demonstration also will include an Intermec EasyCoder® PM4i industrial printer equipped with RFID-readable labels. The PM41 was designed specifically for manufacturing, distribution and warehouse environments where ruggedness and fast throughput are essential for productivity.

Also at Wi-Fi Planet, Intermec will demonstrate the CV60, one of the first rugged vehicle mount terminals to integrate both Bluetooth technology and a wireless base station. This innovative integration eliminates the need for an external base station to communicate with wireless scanners, simplifies installation, reduces lifetime cost of ownership and provides a safer and less cluttered workspace for vehicle operators.

In addition, Intermec will demonstrate the CK30, a new rugged handheld computer designed to be the ideal bridge between the technologies mobile data collection users are employing today and what they will need tomorrow. The terminal incorporates advanced communications features that include an 802.11b/g radio for data rates of up to 54 Mbps, integrated Bluetooth technology for wireless printing, and linear imaging and color display options. The CK30's unparalleled capability to perform legacy applications through terminal emulation allows mobile data collection users to effortlessly migrate their technology and protects their investment for years to come.

Intermec also will demonstrate the WA22 dual radio access point, equipped with two 802.11g radios. # # #
