Industry Leaders Join Forces Again to Lower Cost of Business-Critical Computing, Expand Reseller Agreement to China ROUND ROCK, Texas & REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -- Today, Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) and Oracle (Nasdaq:ORCL) expanded their strategic partnership with an initiative to significantly lower the cost of business-critical computing for a broader range of customers. The Dell and Oracle partnership continues to make it easy for customers to acquire and deploy business-critical computing based on standardized, cost-effective technology. The initiative includes an exclusive go-to-market agreement, making Dell the first Oracle(R) partner to deliver a shrink-wrap packaged offering of Oracle Standard Edition One.Oracle Standard Edition One will be made available with Dell PowerEdge servers worldwide.Dell will also continue working to expand customers' adoption of Grid technology with solutions based on Oracle Real Application Cluster technology.Additionally, both companies are working together to provide customers in China a one-stop, single point of contact for Linux and grid computing. The Dell/Oracle configurations consist of Dell PowerEdge 2600 or 2650 servers and CDs containing the Oracle Standard Edition One database, which will include a shrink-wrap licensing agreement that allows the customer to enter into a contract to license the Oracle Database by simply breaking the seal. This demonstrates the ongoing commitment of both companies to lower the cost of enterprise computing by making business-critical technologies, such as Oracle's industry-leading database, easily available to all companies, regardless of size. Dell and Oracle: Affordable, Easy to Deploy, Manage and Grow Oracle Standard Edition One enables users to build and deploy business-critical applications with proven performance, availability, security and reliability. Since Oracle Standard Edition One can be deployed on single servers with a capacity of up to two processors, such as the Dell PowerEdge 2650 and PowerEdge 2600, it is especially attractive to organizations, line-of-business departments and distributed branch environments. Dell's extensive experience in the volume server market has enabled it to deliver an Oracle Database platform that is easy to purchase, implement and manage.Dell will provide tested and supported configurations of Dell PowerEdge servers with Oracle Standard Edition One and serve as the single point of contact for those customers.Customers that want to purchase only the software can continue buying directly from Oracle. The combined Dell server and Oracle software platforms are available for order today for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux starting at US$4,108. As part of this agreement, Dell will also factory install Oracle Standard Edition One with Red Hat Linux and Microsoft Windows on Dell PowerEdge 2600 and 2650 servers later in the year. Expanded Reseller Agreement to Include China Dell and Oracle also recently announced the extension of their existing sales agreement to resell Oracle licenses to include China. That agreement will make it easier for customers in China to deploy Oracle products on Dell servers running Linux, enabling them to have a powerful, reliable and fully integrated solution that can scale affordably as their businesses grow. These Oracle products include Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server and Oracle Collaboration Suite. Currently, Oracle is certifying Dell PowerEdge servers with Red Flag DC 4.0 and Oracle Database 10g at its China Development Center in Beijing. Dell servers will be the first platform to be certified in China with Oracle Database 10g and Red Flag Linux solutions. Dell and Oracle plan to continue to co-develop enhancements to manageability and software integration of future products. For more information about the Dell-Oracle relationship please visit www.dell.com/oracle.
