AeroMetric Hires Ellis to Lead GIS Market Development

AeroMetric has hired Stephen Ellis as vice president of business development, leading the expansion of AeroMetric’s enterprise geographic information systems (E-GIS) team. Ellis brings 25 years of experience to this position. Marvin Miller, AeroMetric's senior vice president for business development said, “Steve brings decades of hands-on Enterprise GIS experience to AeroMetric, including project development, management, and delivery. His significant experience in complex, enterprise-wide information environments is an asset for clients looking for on-target geospatial solutions that maximize the return on their spatial information investments.” "I am excited to be part of AeroMetric's effort to grow its E-GIS group. AeroMetric has many key clients that, along with traditional mapping needs, also have GIS requirements.

My goal is to provide these valuable clients with a ‘one-stop shop’ for all their geospatial needs," said Ellis. Ellis was most recently vice president with GeoDecisions, a division of Gannett Fleming. During his 10 years with this firm he oversaw the expansion of their GIS practice in multiple markets. Fluent in all aspects of GIS technology, Ellis has led project teams, managed the development of custom solutions for clients, and participated in the design and implementation of projects ranging from raster GIS, to network modeling, to geospatial analysis.

Prior experience includes 10 years with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation where he was involved in multiple assignments. These ranged from a two year stint as district webmaster, to responsibilities for day-to-day district GIS operations. Ellis served the U. S. Air Force for six years, including involvement in the development of initial GIS applications for Air Force engineering units. He maintains military service through membership in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Ellis is currently president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors (MAPPS). He is a certified geographic information systems professional, is the author of several articles and papers, and has presented frequently at professional conferences and events.

Reach Ellis at sellis@aerometric.com or call him direct at (814) 571-5413.

Towards a Global Licensing Framework for Geospatial Data

Is it time for a global licensing framework for geospatial data? The GSDI Legal and Economic Working group thinks so and offered a presentation and a way forward at the GSDI 13 conference held in Quebec City in May. The effort aims to harmonize existing licensing without changing fundamental access policies and funding models and be compatible with the diferences in national legal systems. That's a tall order, but an important one as the world moves toward geodata sharing. Geoff Zeiss reports.
