Arlington Updates Online GIS Map with SimpliCITY Mapping

Arlington, MA, July 16, 2012 - As part of the Arlington’s ongoing effort to improve service delivery to residents, the Town is pleased to announce the update of its online GIS mapping service to SimpliCITY Mapping by PeopleGIS. SimpliCITY Mapping offers a more intuitive user interface, improved download speeds, and new and improved features including custom map creation, unofficial abutters lists, and quick zooms.

Using the “Layers” feature, visitors can easily turn on and off map layers including voter precincts, open spaces, wetlands, zoning, and aerial photos. Visitors can also create and print their own custom maps from a selection of base maps including Google street and hybrid (aerial) maps.

Using the “Find” feature, visitors can locate property and parcel information and generate an unofficial abutters list. The “Quick Zooms” feature allows visitors to quickly jump to public locations such as Arlington schools, parks, and playgrounds.

The new system is easy to update allowing the Town to provide the public more accurate and timely map information. SimpliCITY Mapping is just one aspect of the Town’s investment in a GIS strategy to provide improvements in productivity of Town operations. The service is being utilized by the Town to develop more accurate inventories of infrastructure and property related information to improve tracking and workflow within the organization.
