BAE Systems | San Diego,CA

"Ten years ago, we began to see convergence in the various mapping and analysis disciplines," said Jeff Allen, general manager of BAE Systems' Geospatial eXploitation Products business. "To address this trend, we built SOCET GXP to integrate multiple geospatial capabilities into one product, eliminate the redundancy of specialty packages, and reduce operating, maintenance, and training costs."

Novice and expert users are now able to take advantage of new SOCET GXP v4.0 workflows to complete projects in a fraction of the time required by other products. Version 4.0 features real-time, interactive 3-D views synchronized with 2-D imagery to simulate the operating environment. Built-in cue cards offer step-by-step instructions for creating and auto-texturing building models and other geospatial processes on-the-fly. SOCET GXP v4.0 also features new LiDAR analysis, Triangulated Irregular Network terrain modeling, and automatic feature extraction capabilities to accelerate tedious manual tasks.

SOCET GXP v4.0 uses imagery and video from government and commercial sources to identify, analyze, and extract ground features quickly for improved situational awareness. It reads and processes data natively to save excess steps such as importing and reformatting data. Data discovered in GXP Xplorer, BAE Systems' latest data management tool, can be loaded into SOCET GXP v4.0 for further analysis. The software also is compatible with popular geospatial products such as TerraGo(R) 2-D Publisher and 3-D GeoPDF, Google Earth(TM), Esri(R) ArcGIS Server, and Esri geodatabases.

NASA’s IceBridge Mission Contributes to New Map of Antarctica

A new dataset called Bedmap2 gives a clearer picture of Antarctica from the ice surface down to the bedrock below. Bedmap2 is a significant improvement on the previous collection of Antarctic data—known as Bedmap. The product was a result of work led by the British Antarctic Survey, where researchers compiled decades worth of geophysical measurements, such as surface elevation measurements from NASA's Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite, known as...
