BACTEC and FIND have announced the release of a new website - BombRisk.com. It’s the only site in the UK offering planners and developers instant access to unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk assessments.

Guidelines published by the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) recommend a review of potential sources of UXO as part of the planning process. A BombRisk preliminary assessment satisfies Phase 1 of CIRIA’s ‘best practice’ recommendations.

In the course of assessing risk and clearing UXO from contaminated land for over 20 years, BACTEC has developed a unique nationwide geospatial database of known UXO risk factors and locations. These include not only unexploded bombs dropped during air raids, but also arms and munitions abandoned on land used for training, storage, testing, military establishments, defensive positions, decoy sites, minefields etc. FIND’s technical expertise means that this data can now be used to instantly generate reliable and trustworthy preliminary UXO risk assessments.

In many cases a preliminary BombRisk assessment costing £175 + VAT is all that will be needed. If further investigation is required the cost of the preliminary report will be deducted from the cost of a more detailed study.
