Sharing is Caring

DUBUQUE, IOWA — Cartegraph is pleased to announce the winners of its annual Excellence in Operations Management Awards, which celebrate the most forward-thinking, efficient organizations in local government. Six organizations earned awards based on their accomplishments using technology in several core areas, including infrastructure management, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision making.

Adams County, Colorado

From transportation to stormwater, Adams County is using Cartegraph to make data-driven decisions across its organization. For example, the county used the software to implement its first-ever systematic inspection of the storm sewer system in 2015 – capturing detailed information, storing videos and photos, and sharing that information back to elected officials and citizens. The data captured in these inspections has helped the county prioritize repairs and schedule maintenance work that will extend the life of the pipes.

"These awards do not come overnight; this is a testament to a lot of hard work, commitment, and teamwork. We are delighted to share this with so many people who value and understand the importance of maintaining critical infrastructure.” - Brandi Rank, GIS Supervisor

Arlington County, Virginia - Department of Environmental Services

The Department of Environmental Services in Arlington County implemented Cartegraph in 2015 as part of its ongoing effort to improve operational efficiencies. By moving away from stove-piped solutions and implementing enterprise software, the department is already recognizing improvements: better communication, smoother processes, and access to valuable information which helps the team make informed decisions.

“DES is honored to receive the 2015 Excellence in Operations Management Award. As the largest department within Arlington County, Cartegraph has been an excellent tool for our staff to use to streamline processes and integrate workflows.” – Claudia O’Connor, Departmental Applications and Technology Manager

Central Park Conservancy, New York

Tasked with managing one of the most famous parks in the world, Central Park Conservancy is on the forefront of operational efficiency. Since implementing Cartegraph in 2014, the team has completed over 42,000 tasks on 38,000 assets – capturing data every step of the way. That data has empowered park staff to make informed decisions about their assets and workflows. They are becoming more proactive by scheduling preventative maintenance tasks and planning projects for years to come.

“The Central Park Conservancy is pleased and honored to receive this year’s Cartegraph award for Excellence in Operations Management. With 42 million visits each year to its 843 acres, Central Park is the most frequently visited urban park in the United States. Cartegraph has been a powerful tool in our ability to effectively manage the park.” - Douglas Blonsky, President & CEO, Central Park Conservancy and Central Park Administrator

City of Colorado Springs, Colorado

For decades, the City of Colorado Springs used Excel to document unfunded project needs, currently totaling $1.1 billion. The spreadsheets did not provide spatial information, making it difficult to comprehend the proximity of requests. Today, the city uses ArcGIS Online in conjunction with Cartegraph to map all unfunded project needs. This allows planners to uncover opportunities for cost sharing, prevent potential project conflicts, and provide updates to the community.

“We are honored to be selected for this award. It is exciting to see how much infrastructure asset management has grown across our organization using Cartegraph products as an enterprise solution. We are continually looking at process improvements and molding Cartegraph’s Operations Management System throughout our organization.” - Andy Richter, Asset Management Supervisor

City of Davenport, IA

With eight departments implementing Cartegraph in one year, Davenport Public Works has become a leader in operations management. The city has realized process efficiencies across the board including: automating a preventative maintenance schedule for facilities, streamlining sidewalk and approach inspections, and catching up on a backlog of rental inspections with the help of ArcGIS mapping. Davenport has also developed a mobile workforce, deploying 30 iPads to the field to save paper and increase productivity.

“The City of Davenport appreciates being recognized for such a successful deployment of work order management. Cartegraph has allowed us to integrate work across departments, gain efficiencies in multiple departments, and track response to citizens.” – Nicole Gleason, Assistant Public Works Director

City of Kingsport, TN

By moving from paper-based work orders to modern technology in 2014, Kingsport is becoming a high-performance organization. The data in Cartegraph has helped the city understand the full cost of its activities and how long it takes to complete certain tasks. The team has used that data to guide its work planning – determining which projects should be contracted out, which need to be completed internally, and which can be scheduled for the future. The key reason for Kingsport’s success is that everyone on the team has embraced Cartegraph, relying on it to complete their daily work and using it to bridge relationships between field personnel and office personnel.

“We see Cartegraph as a catalyst to the end goal of better decision making. Receiving this exciting award validates measurable progress in our efforts.”  - Kristen Steach, Wastewater Technical Services Coordinator
