Sharing is Caring

Sept 10, Clyde Court Hotel, Dublin, Ireland

Dublin, Ireland, 01 Sept 2015

It is ten years since the launch of Google Maps and in that time the use of mapping technologies of many types has gone mainstream – bringing the power to manage, analyse, and visualise information to many different real world applications. One Irish-based company has greatly benefitted and indeed driven the adoption of these technologies and approaches and now mixes information and location technologies to support a range of industries.  In the upcoming Compass15 conference, that company - Compass Informatics – asks a selection of its key clients to describe the value of those technologies in their business challenges.

The challenges are wide and varied but include…

Managing 700,000 tonnes of biosolids for reuse in agriculture

Using anonymised mobile phone data to inform transportation infrastructure design

Standardising the planning and management of roads works management across local authorities

Analysing and analysing large data collections on our marine environment - the 90% of Ireland that is underwater

Creating an efficient parking payments solution and making intelligent parking management tools

Recording and analysing Ireland’s biodiversity to enable better planning

Saving information on our heritage and archaeology and capturing it to digital map form

The conference brings a diverse audience together from public and private sectors and from a range of businesses, reflecting the opportunities now arising from the accessibility of location technologies.

The conference activities also hint at the new commercial opportunities – with spinout GoParkit (GoParkit.com) using location technologies to provide a parking payments and management platform to the US and Irish markets from its Dublin HQ; and Ubipix.com – a university spinout that has created a location-tagged video platform.

The Compass conference will be held on September 10th at the Clyde Court Hotel, Dublin. The event is free for those who have registered in advance. Optional donations to Special Olympics Ireland that the company will match.

Gearoid Ó Riain, founder and managing director of Compass Informatics, hosts of the conference comments that “The Compass15 conference will provide the same excellent learning and knowledge sharing opportunities of previous events, and is greatly facilitated by client organisations across state and private sectors who see the importance of evidence-based decision making. The essence of the location technology solutions presented is that they assist decision making through providing accurate information in accessible ways.”
