County of New Castle, Delaware Launches GIS Web Viewer Developed by geographIT

Lancaster, Pennsylvania (April 15, 2014) - Development of a fully configurable GIS web viewer, architected on ESRI’s JavaScript API, was successfully completed by geographIT for New Castle County, Delaware (NCCDE). Among its more salient features are the ability to reorganize or swap out all of the map content, as well as to change color schemes, styles, fonts, logos and banners simply by editing the contents of a configuration file, thus isolating the web site administrator from ever having to touch any program code.

This has freed NCCDE staff to make the modifications they deem necessary without depending on external vendor participation. Additional features include parcel and subdivision searches, web-map printing, address searches, owner / occupant notification mailing lists and the ability to define links for map features (such as bus schedules from bus routes and tax information from parcels).

Kudos go to NCCDE staff who have used this last functionality to link to numerous additional web sites, in effect converting the web-viewer into a front end for a wide variety of internal and external information resources. A collaborative incremental development approach, instrumental to the success of the project, was accomplished by setting up a development environment that could seamlessly be monitored and tested by NCCDE staff throughout the entire implementation process.

Additional information about this project can be found under the following links: www.nccde.org and www.delawareonline.com/story/news/local/ The GIS Viewer is available at: gis.nccde.org
