Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, is pleased to announce that Krista Rand, EIT, CFM, has been selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to receive a fellowship with its 2016 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).

The fellowship is given to outstanding graduate students who demonstrate the potential to help strengthen the vitality of the U.S. science and engineering enterprise. Her proposed research involves identifying civil infrastructure interdependencies that may create hidden vulnerabilities to hazards such as floods. She will pursue her studies at the University of Virginia’s Department of Systems and Information Engineering. As a staff engineer at Dewberry, Rand works on projects pertaining to water resources and climate change. She focuses on the vulnerability of infrastructure and the built environment to current and projected flood hazards at varying spatial scales and supporting flood inundation modeling in populous areas. Rand earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Maine. She is a certified floodplain manager and an engineer in training. She is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of State Floodplain Managers, and the American Water Resources Association.
