On September 26, Directions Magazine will launch a weekly series of articles and project overview videos from NASA DEVELOP interns highlighting work completed during the summer 2012 term.  This series will help readers of Directions Magazine become familiar with the NASA DEVELOP Program and its research focus, which emphasizes the practical application of NASA Earth observations in the decision making process related to environmental concerns across the globe.

The project highlight videos will be featured in Directions Magazine’s video archives and newsletter.  Each highlight video is a three- to five-minute summary, created entirely by each student-led research team, which discusses the community concern addressed by the project, the data used and analysis conducted, and the results achieved in the 10-week term.

“We are excited to partner with Directions Magazine to highlight the hard work of DEVELOP interns along with the remarkable capabilities of NASA’s Earth observation resources. We have found that these videos are a great way to increase the number of people being introduced to NASA’s Applied Sciences Program and the impact that NASA Earth science can have on our everyday lives. We hope that these videos will spark new users and unleash the potential of NASA’s satellites and airborne missions to address community concerns around the globe,” said Jamie Favors, the DEVELOP deputy national lead.

“The articles and videos from the NASA DEVELOP team will provide a fantastic resource for our readers in the area of remote sensing and geospatial analysis,” said Joe Francica, editor in chief of Directions Magazine. “We hope this will be the start of a long-term relationship.”

The feature will also include research articles from the DEVELOP Program covering NASA Earth observation applications in disasters, agriculture, ecological forecasting and climate, with the addition of air quality and health.
Please check the Directions Magazine website regularly to see new information about the NASA DEVELOP Program and the new articles as they are released.
