Drones Flying FreeAttracts Over 1400 Registrants Before Official Launch

-Over 1400 people have already registered for Directions Magazine’s first annual virtual conference, Drones Flying Free, and the numbers continue to climb. The half-day virtual conference scheduled for Feb 17 was launched quietly through social media channels last month — a soft-release that immediately attracted the attention of drone-enthusiasts across the country.

Drones are a particularly hot topic right now: From prosumers interrupting commercial flight paths and educators desperately trying to keep their curricula relevant for tomorrow's job market, to the millions of companies who are just beginning to tap the power of drone-generated data, drones are a controversial but integral part of the future of both business and education.

The half-day virtual conference, Drones Flying Free, willbe an exploration of the issues surrounding the use of drones and their integration into current workflows and curricula. Industry leaders, including Esri's Technical Product Manager Cody Benkelman, will provide expert insight into addressing the issues. They'll share their opinions on the most beneficial equipment, software and best practices for integrating drones into the workplace, provide examples of successful integration, and discuss the ways in which education can support industry needs.

The conference, which is free to all attendees, will consist of three live sessions:

Prosumers, Educators and Business Leaders alikewill get the facts on key safety issues, proper training and current FAA regulations in session 1 — including how to get an exemption for their drones.

Educators, who want to collaborate with local industry, design an engaging curriculum that integrates drones, and give their GIS students a leg-up with experienced-based education are encouraged to join session 2.

Business Leaders, who could benefit from lower data-acquisition costs, improved data quality and the advantage of having the exact geospatial data they need in near real-time, but are still trying to figure out how to actually do it, will want to join session 3.
