Tuesday, March 5th 2013

-East View is pleased to announce the release of a special compilation of historical global population datasets developed by the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The LandScan Global Archive includes eleven annual editions of the LandScan Global Population Database from the year 2000 through 2010.

East View became the US Government's exclusive distributor of the global population dataset called LandScan Global in August 2011. Since then, East View has contributed significantly to the overall value and marketability of LandScan. Most notably, the development of various online services has greatly enhanced user access to the data.

Until recently authorized by the DOE, the prior year LandScan datasets were not available for distribution. It was not until January of this year that final approval was granted and East View was given the green light to launch the LandScan Global Archive.

In the December 2012 issue of base line (ISSN 1943-6548), Carol McAuliffe, Map Librarian, University of Florida wrote: "Archived datasets for past years greatly increase the usefulness of the resource over time. Reasons to consider purchasing LandScan™ Global Population Datasets include its prevalence in research studies, increasing public awareness of the resource as it is used in high profile disaster relief efforts, and finally, its innovative and powerful modeling system-which makes it a cutting-edge population data resource."

"East View has built over a dozen online archive products in Russian, Chinese and Arabic. The LandScan Global Archive is our first geospatial archive built on our brand new EVGeoCloud platform. Librarians and researchers have been requesting access to past years' data and East View worked hard to bring this to life; we are really proud of the end product. The EVGeoCloud will soon be populated with other geospatially-enabled open source and proprietary regional and global datasets." - Kent D. Lee, Founder and CEO of East View.
