GIS Students Will be Paired with Nonprofits in Need to Complete Projects, Coursework

May 10, 2012 - EduContribution.org, a service-learning nonprofit facilitating GIS projects between education and nonprofits, is looking for students to participate in the first phase of its "Donate Your Thesis" program. Graduate students who participate in the program will be paired with nonprofits who need a GIS project completed, but can't afford it. The students will use the project as their thesis, completing the project in full for the nonprofit while fulfilling their degree requirements.

"This program is a win-win for students and nonprofits alike," said EduContribution President Reed Tomlinson. "Nonprofits who need GIS to further their work but can't afford it can have access to this technology, and students can complete projects with real-world implications and results. We're looking for a few willing and eager students to help us get started."

EduContribution will begin a Twitter promotion of the pilot project this week using the hashtag #donateyourthesis. Interested parties are invited to join the conversation @EduContribution and help spread the word.

"We know these projects will prove valuable and significant for both parties, and we're excited to get this program started," Tomlinson added.

After the completion of the pilot projects, EduContribution plans to expand the program to allow more students and nonprofits to participate.
