At AGI GeoCommunity 2012, held in Nottingham (U.K.), Europa Technologies has today announced support for further Ordnance Survey map data products within its popular viaEuropa hosted map service. viaEuropa, a leading example of Data as a Service (DaaS), provides a quick and easy way for applications to access high-quality Ordnance Survey maps online.

OS MasterMap® Topography Layer is now available with full coverage of Great Britain and award-winning cartography. The viaEuropa rendition of OS MasterMap Topo was recognised earlier this year at the British Cartographic Society Awards, where Europa Technologies won the OS MasterMap Award for Better Mapping. The use of OS AddressBase® has been extended two-fold. Firstly, the product is now available as an overlay with full coverage of Great Britain. This allows nearly all premises shown in base maps, including OS VectorMap® Local and OS MasterMap, to be overlaid with a building number or name. This powerful visualisation allows relationships to be quickly discovered, such as properties with adjoining land areas. Secondly, OS AddressBase has been employed to provide a comprehensive premise-level search capability, with predictive results as the user types.

Finally, for the first time, viaEuropa now includes support for OS Points of Interest (POI) data, derived from PointX. Featuring a comprehensive database of over 4 million points, the POI overlay provides valuable insight into locations covering a variety of categories including accommodation, eating & drinking, commercial services, attractions, sports & entertainment, education & health, public infrastructure, retail and transport. These latest enhancements further strengthen the advantages of using the viaEuropa service over managing such data internally. Business applications requiring an easy to implement yet detailed base map have the most to gain from this approach.

Warren Vick, Director and Founder of Europa Technologies, said: “We are delighted to extend the number of Ordnance Survey data sets available through our award-winning viaEuropa service. Our service now provides full coverage for the most detailed digital mapping available in Great Britain, combined with a powerful premise-level search capability and support for very practical overlays.” OS MasterMap Topography Layer and OS AddressBase are available to the public sector in England and Wales under the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA) and to other sectors through commercial licences.

For Points of Interest and those organisations not already licensed to use Ordnance Survey mapping, Europa Technologies can arrange the appropriate licensing. Europa Technologies is proud to be a silver sponsor of AGI GeoCommunity 2012 and will be demonstrating viaEuropa and its new features at its exhibition stand. Duncan Hill, Business Development Manager, will be discussing the benefits of shared services during his presentation “Don’t replicate, collaborate” on Thursday 20th September at 14:45.
