St. Cloud, MN - GeoComm offers an effective and streamlined approach for preparing GIS data for an NG9-1-1 environment. With over 20 years of experience in GIS Services for public safety, GeoComm has designed the NG9-1-1 GIS Services offering to be easily adaptable for jurisdictions of all sizes including local, regional, or statewide. This offering approaches NG9-1-1 GIS readiness in three steps: Assess, Improve, and Maintain. This straight-forward approach keeps it simple and easy for jurisdictions. Today is the day to begin preparing GIS data for its key role in a successful NG9-1-1 system.

GeoComm approaches the Assess step by first taking a complete look at a jurisdiction’s readiness status. Assess encompasses several elements including educating stakeholders on the importance of quality GIS, developing local, regional, and statewide standards, and GIS data review and analysis in order to recommend steps for improvement processes regarding GIS data integrity and readiness for 9-1-1 systems and NG9-1-1 systems.

Once the assessment is complete and recommendations have been made; a jurisdiction will begin to Improve, enhance, and prepare the GIS data for its mission critical role in an NG9-1-1 system. Improvement may include GIS data cleanup or remediation and enhancing the GIS data with additional layers or attributes for a NG9-1-1 system.

After the GIS datasets are improved, a maintenance plan is implemented to ensure the on-going quality, consistency, and integrity of local, regional, and statewide GIS datasets. The Maintain step provides the stakeholder jurisdictions with the peace of mind that near real time updates are occurring.

“We’ve been working with public safety agencies for over two decades and are pleased to offer this proven approach to NG9-1-1 GIS readiness,” stated John Brosowsky, Vice President of Product Management and Innovation at GeoComm. “Throughout the Assess, Improve, and Maintain process, GeoComm partners with our customers to navigate all of the elements of the project and applies our knowledge from working with customers nationwide in order to implement the on-going GIS management and monitoring that is needed for NG9-1-1.”
