GeoComm Partnering with the State of Iowa to Manage Statewide GIS Dataset for NG9-1-1

Sharing is Caring

-Together, the State of Iowa and GeoComm have completed the implementation of a statewide seamless, gapless NG9-1-1 GIS dataset. This dataset will be used for routing 9-1-1 calls and pre 9-1-1 call location validation in Iowa’s NG9-1-1 system.

GeoComm worked with the State and the 99 counties to:

  • Acquire locally authoritative GIS data
  • Transform and aggregate the data
  • Set up a repeatable process for on-going GIS data submission, transformation, aggregation, and Quality Control (QC)

GeoComm will now continue to work with all stakeholders for on-going sustainability processing of the local datasets into the statewide dataset, utilizing GeoComm’s GIS Managed Services bureau and a suite of GeoComm tools for data submission and QC reporting. These sustaining services will provide Iowa with:

  • On-going GIS data updates from locally authoritative sources into the statewide GIS dataset
  • Critical GIS updates available for provisioning into the Emergency Call Routing Function (ECRF) and Location Validation Function (LVF)
  • Continuous reporting metrics and measurements on the quality of the GIS data

“GeoComm has demonstrated a great level of expertise in NG9-1-1 GIS standards throughout this project. The communication from the project team has been consistent and frequent; their plan was very effective in rolling out the new standards to the counties throughout the state. As a result of this project our GIS data will be adequately prepared for an NG9-1-1 environment,” Blake DeRouchey, Iowa E9-1-1 Program Manager.

“GeoComm is privileged to work side-by-side with Iowa to improve the state’s overall GIS data integrity and their accessibility to the GIS data for the implementation of ECRF GIS-based call routing in the 9-1-1 system,” said John Bryant GeoComm President/CEO.
