Geosemble and In-Q-Tel Expand Strategic Partnership

– Geosemble Technologies, developer of geographic search and discovery software, today announced a second technology advancement agreement with In-Q-Tel (IQT), the independent strategic investment firm that identifies innovative technology solutions to support the mission of the U.S. Intelligence Community.

The agreement expands the range of features and capabilities being developed by Geosemble in order to deliver added value to the community and other users of geographic search and discovery tools. For individuals and organizations that are responsible for geographic regions, Geosemble’s GeoXray™ product is designed to reduce information overload and help users identify opportunities and threats in their geographic areas of interest. Applications include business intelligence, enterprise search, and mobile content delivery for a range of users, including Federal and state governments and commercial companies with defined sales territories. Instead of having those users search the internet and manually determine what information pertains to their areas of interest, GeoXray™ provides the “triple filter” of first filtering by a geographic area of interest, and then by topic of interest, and finally by date or date range, thereby dramatically reducing data clutter. As a result, users have more time for analysis, collaboration and action. In-Q-Tel initially invested in Geosemble on behalf of its government customers in March 2009. IQT facilitates access to leading-edge technologies for new and improved capabilities.

“Through our partnership with In-Q-Tel, we have access to a robust portfolio of commercial innovations like GeoXray™, that will ultimately help solve some of our most pressing challenges,” said David K. White, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency liaison with In-Q-Tel. “Geosemble’s technology offers potential value for cutting-edge geographic search and discovery applications.” “As our partnership with In-Q-Tel expands, we’re excited and proud to be delivering value into this important and demanding market segment,” said Andre Doumitt, CEO of Geosemble. “From a technology point of view, many of the requirements of this government segment are common to other large commercial Enterprise customers. As a result, we are continuing to develop solutions that map very well to commercial and mobile technology needs of enterprise and everyday users interested in particular geographic areas.”

Towards a Global Licensing Framework for Geospatial Data

Is it time for a global licensing framework for geospatial data? The GSDI Legal and Economic Working group thinks so and offered a presentation and a way forward at the GSDI 13 conference held in Quebec City in May. The effort aims to harmonize existing licensing without changing fundamental access policies and funding models and be compatible with the diferences in national legal systems. That's a tall order, but an important one as the world moves toward geodata sharing. Geoff Zeiss reports.
