Visual Command Center, released in fall 2011, unites data from multiple security systems and risk-related data sources into a comprehensive, real-time view. The software provides security operations with situational awareness and context they need to respond quickly and effectively to manmade or natural threats and emergencies.
The new feature extends this ability by automatically alerting users to severe weather and global security incidents. The software monitors selected Web feeds for weather alerts and incidents related to terrorism, aviation, natural disasters, border security, hazmat situations, disease outbreaks, and other threats. Alerts are visualized in the Visual Command Center map and timeline, and sent to designated recipients via e-mail. Users can zoom to an alert’s location on the map with a single click.
The alerting feature intelligently restricts alerts to the most relevant events—those occurring near an organization’s assets, such as offices, warehouses, or travelling employees. Each organization can customize its alerts by specifying the type of assets to monitor and the distance from an event location that will trigger an alert.
“User feedback was essential to the development of the alerting feature,” said Ian Clemens, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of IDV Solutions. “We worked with security operations and management teams to understand how alerting could help their organizations. The new feature answers their needs for actionable, real-time information they can use to protect people and property, and avoids flooding them with irrelevant data.”
