Danish power producer DONG Energy to implement enterprise-wide smart grid applications

 – Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been selected by DONG Energy to supply a full suite of smart grid systems, centered on its industry leading advanced distribution management system (ADMS). These applications will integrate seamlessly with DONG Energy’s existing Telvent GIS system to provide a single, powerful platform that will support all of its business processes from planning to final delivery.

Using Telvent smart grid solutions, DONG Energy, the largest power producer in Denmark, will be able to monitor, control and improve its overall knowledge of the state of its network. With the capability to process and incorporate real-time data from the field, forecast load demand, and better model distributed generation throughout the network, the ADMS allows the utility to allocate energy across the grid more efficiently and better integrate renewable sources of energy into the network.

In the event of a power disruption, Telvent’s ADMS also supports self-healing, incident-response capabilities by identifying the fault location and automatically providing dispatchers with decision support recommendations on how best to restore power. These expanded functions will allow DONG Energy to reduce the number of outages, reduce incident response time when outages do occur and ultimately increase network reliability.

According to Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “We are pleased to reaffirm our strong relationship with DONG Energy and to provide comprehensive smart grid solutions that allow its distribution network to operate more efficiently. Our technology supports utilities throughout the world in making power generation and distribution more intelligent, efficient and sustainable.”

Telvent’s ADMS technology is deployed in more than 25 countries around the world and serves 68 million utility customers. It recently received a “strong positive” rating, the highest possible, from Gartner Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, in its March 2012 report, “MarketScope for Advanced Distribution Management Systems.”

DONG Energy selected Telvent because of its global and regional smart grid expertise. Telvent has extensive experience and is a leading provider of smart grid solutions to utilities in the Nordic market, with projects in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
