New Patent Granted for Smart Zone Technology, Powering the Enterprise with Location Intelligence

LocationSmart®, the leading provider of real-time location and interactivity services, has announced the issuance of US Patent 8,666,373 by the US Patent Office, which covers LocationSmart's Smart Zone technology. Smart Zone includes a method of determining a zone of relevance based on a mobile user's location and determining appropriate notification content and methods based on certain criteria related to the value of the notification. The innovative technology enhances LocationSmart's cloud-based, cross-carrier location and interactivity platform, powering the enterprise with location intelligence through a comprehensive set of web services application programming interfaces (APIs).

This patent covers optimizing the selection of communications and location methods based on the perceived value of the content being communicated. It further covers selecting the best communication or location solution for the value/cost ratio vs. a threshold established through application-specific business rules and value factors. The LocationSmart platform is employed by leading companies in a number of industries, enabling a multitude of applications including proximity marketing, workforce check-ins, emergency alerting, mobile gaming and transaction verification.

"This patent strengthens the intellectual property behind our award-winning LocationSmart platform," saidMario Proietti, CEO of LocationSmart. "It validates our commitment to enabling customers to engage users with the most geo-relevant content possible."

The patent issued earlier this month expands LocationSmart's intellectual property portfolio to cover its Smart Zone technology. Smart Zones enable businesses to make informed decisions about when and how to engage with mobile users based on their geographic location in relation to a zone of relevance and associated criteria. This is especially beneficial for internet and mobile gaming and financial services where companies need to validate if someone is in or near a specific area for transaction verification and other real-time interactions.
