PenBay Solutions is delighted to be working with the Los Angeles Unified School District as InVision FM is deployed to help save time and money in their capacity planning pilot project.

PenBay Solutions, the leading developer of GIS-based facility management and public safety software, has been selected by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to configure and roll out a new InVision FM solution to streamline the process of their annual capacity planning process.

Second largest in the nation, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) enrolls more than 640,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, at over 900 schools. The boundaries spread over 720 square miles and include the mega-city of Los Angeles as well as all or parts of 31 smaller municipalities, plus several unincorporated sections of Southern California.

With over 18,000 buildings in the LAUSD school system, capacity planning is a big job that requires accuracy and transparency. The capacity planning process at LAUSD has traditionally been a face-to-face endeavor: central planning personnel would travel to regional facilities to meet with the principals and then delineate space utilization information. Because of the sheer size of the school district, LAUSD recognizes the need for a more efficient, cost-effective process that better ensures every single space has an identified purpose.

LAUSD has chosen InVision FM to help maximize the productive capacity of every square foot of space throughout their schools. A commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) solution, InVision offers a consolidated database, enhanced visualization, an intuitive dashboard, and advanced reporting to help LAUSD:

  •     Streamline their capacity planning processes by allowing principals to report on space usage remotely, saving time and money.
  •     More easily communicate capacity planning information to the vast number of constituents involved in making facility decisions throughout the school district.

“We chose InVision FM because we feel it presents the best solution to our immediate needs around annual capacity planning,” said Rena Perez, Director of Demographics for LAUSD. “It was just as important to choose a solution that we can grow into. We see great promise in the PenBay InVision solutions for portfolio planning and management; safety and security; and overall facility management and operations as well.”

“We’re elated to be working with the Los Angeles Unified School District,” said Bill Barron, CEO of PenBay Solutions. “Though the need for efficient, effective capacity planning, safety and security, and facility management is not unique to LAUSD, the immense size of the district does present its own set of challenges. Because our InVision solutions are scalable to projects large and small, we know InVision is up to the task. We’re excited to see the results of this capacity planning pilot project.”
