Mayrise Software Helps West Berkshire Street Works Inspectors Get Mobile

Mobile mapping and street works management software from Mayrise Systems is helping UK local authority West Berkshire achieve savings through improved working practices. Using rugged all-in-one handheld computers from Pidion, Street Works Inspectors can work independently in the field; retrieving up to date street works information, completing and filing inspection reports and accessing detailed street level mapping. The Mayrise powered devices will also help the Council comply with new legislation – EtoN 6, when it is introduced next year.

“Prior to the introduction of the Mayrise mobile system the first port of call each day for our Street Works Inspectors was the office,” commented Neil Ainsworth, Principal Engineer for Street Works at West Berkshire Council. “Here they would collect their daily schedule together with blank inspection reports and possibly some pre-printed maps. Now all this information is available at any time at the touch of a button!”

Using the Mayrise centralised system and integrated mobile modules Street Works Inspectors working in the field have up to the minute access to the same information as office based colleagues. The Pidion devices can interrogate the Street Works Register to fetch live information about specific works, access street level mapping through Mayrise MapNow and communicate with the relevant statutory undertaker if required. In addition, the menu driven inspection regime allows automatic transmission of data back to the office where the centralised MAYRISE Street Works software is updated.

“We are all encouraged by the positive impact mobile working is having on productivity”, continued Neil Ainsworth. “The Inspectors are already noticing positive differences in their working practices as they embrace the new technology.” Keith Chopping, West Berkshire Council’s Acting Executive Member for Highways, Transport (Operational), ICT and Customer Services commented that “introducing mobile working will not only help us to maximise our resources during this time of austerity but will help the Council achieve continuous improvement and savings in delivering the Street Works service across the District.”

West Berkshire Council is a long term user of the centralised Street Works software from Mayrise. MAYRISE for Street Works is a complete solution for managing street works. Handling the Street Works Register, National Street Gazetteer, maintenance, inspections management, defect reporting and locational referencing, the system eliminates paperwork, ensures best practice and provides up to date information on the status of all works. MAYRISE Street Works also offers full compliance with EToN 5 a new specification that allows the introduction of Permit Schemes, adds facilities for Unattributable Works, Section 50 licences, FPN via email and Notice Attachments and EToN 6 due next year.
