MDS’ risk data extended to include ICA’s NFID

MDS has enhanced it’s risk data portfolio when assessing risk down to the street address level. In addition to MDS’ exclusive Risk Frontiers dataset which covers the five perils of flood, fire, cyclone, earthquake and hailstorm; members of the ICA can now access a hosted service for the National Flood Information Databse (NFID). In combination, these datasets provide a unique offering to the insurance industry and in understanding the "threat of peril" from natural disasters.

By engaging with MapData Services, members of the ICA are able to access the rich source of flood information available within ICA’S NFID. MDS will host the NFID data, the most consistent and comprehensive dataset, and provide access to this data as a service. You can reap the benefits of MDS hosting NFID as it removes the need for the business to be concerned with data management including:
* Updates
* Version control
* Quality Assurance

Flood is a persistent risk in the Australian community that traditionally accounts for one third of natural hazard damage. The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) is constantly working on developing greater access to flood insurance products, including a national flood information database (NFID).

NFID allows insurers to assess risk at an address level, set premiums and therefore make flood insurance more readily available. As Patrick Snowball, CEO Suncorp, stated in February, “if an insurance company does not have the information or capability to understand the risk involved; it will not provide the policy.”

MDS takes clears the way to enable you to focus on your business.
