Thursday, June 7th 2012

Directions Magazine will present a webinar presentation entitled, “Open Sensor Webs for Better Living in Cities and Regions.” This complimentary webinar will be offered on June 12th at 10 a.m. EDT and is ideal for anyone who could benefit from interoperability standards for sensor networks and could also benefit from access to OGC GovFuture resources.

This webinar will show how Internet-connected sensors are being used to support municipal and regional operations. Speakers will show how open standards for sensor webs multiply the potential of such sensor networks. The webinar will feature speakers who have been closely involved in multiple projects that take advantage of open standards to help enable officials and citizens to publish, discover, assess, control, access and use sensors as well as live and stored sensor data.

Specific case studies will feature air quality applications in Saxony and Durban, as well as a cholera application in Uganda.

During this webinar, you will learn:

  • How the EU FP7 project, EO2HEAVEN (Earth Observation and Environmental Modelling for the Mitigation of Health Risks), funded by the European Commission, has combined environmental sensor data with other sources of data, including public health data, to assess environmental risks in Europe and Africa. Specific case studies will feature
  • How open sensor networks can be managed with respect to privacy, liability and security issues
  • How GovFuture membership in the OGC can help governments derive maximum value from geospatial technologies integrated with sensor webs

Speakers:

  • Kym Watson of the Fraunhofer Institute IOSB (Germany)
  • Simon Jirka, the 52°North representative to EO2HEAVEN
  • Steven Ramage with OGC
