POWER Engineers announces Washtenaw County’s Implementation of Cityworks AMS

HAILEY, Idaho (July 27, 2016) — POWER Engineers Incorporated (POWER) assisted the Washtenaw County (Mich) Office of Water Resources Commissioner (WCWRC) in a deployment of Cityworks Asset Management System (AMS) and an inventory and condition assessment of the drain system. Creating a countywide condition assessment platform using Cityworks resulted in more efficient drainage system operations. Better systems operation and preventive maintenance will prevent problems, failures, blowouts, etc., thereby protecting water quality – a key objective employed under a Stormwater, Asset Management and Wastewater (SAW) grant.

Washtenaw County reduced its operational costs thanks to the software and by organizing information and stretching resources for more efficient operations in the Office of Water Resources. The county partnered with POWER and Spicer Group for the implementation of Cityworks AMS in January 2016 to manage their drainage system and to integrate with other operational systems. For instance, an interface to JD Edwards synchronizes drain and budget information for reporting.

POWER developed WCWRC work management and condition assessment requirements and configured the product for engineering, drain maintenance and condition assessment operations. In replacing the legacy in-house work management system, the new integrated Cityworks solution improves workflows and makes critical information available to the water resources management team.

Transitioning to Cityworks meant replacing software and processes for time and equipment reporting (drain charges), cashiering and workflow tracking, as well as integrating with OnBase, Esri Collector and ArcGIS. We look forward to the necessary next steps under the SAW Grant program to implement a Stormwater Asset Management Plan with POWER’s assistance,” commented Harry Sheehan, Environmental Manager.

Bill Hoisington, POWER’s project manager, stated, “It’s been exciting for us to work on this project, seeing the improvements that are happening, and being part of the stormwater management planning process.” This project directly ties into the next steps for the Stormwater Asset Management Planning, which will further support the water quality programs and the mission of Washtenaw County. The project was partially funded through a SAW grant awarded in October 2014. SAW is overall a water quality initiative for sanitary systems, while the same objective is employed for stormwater.
