Saint Charles, IL -- The Sidwell Company has been selected for the MAPPS Geospatial Excellence Award in theGIS/IT category at the MAPPS Geospatial Products and Services Excellence Awards competition for its work in Charlotte County, Florida. MAPPS (www.mapps.org) is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States.

 Sidwell’s project for Charlotte County, Florida: “Improved Geospatial Cadastral Mapping withGIS Integration” is a comprehensive inter-departmental initiative that enhanced the data schemas, workflows, and user applications required by the County to modernize their land records-based GIS. More specifically the project included the following major tasks:

Introduction of the Sidwell Tag Data Model in to increase efficiency and functionality for parcel maintenance in the ESRI geodatabase.

• Renumbering of all real property parcels in the jurisdiction to reconcile the County’s existing complex and inconsistent parcel numbering system.
• Spatial adjustment to improve the positional accuracy of the GIS to further support the growth management needs of the Property Appraiser and the County as a whole.
• Conversion of thousands of annotation and dimension features from CAD and hardcopy mapping systems into the newly defined Geodatabase format.
• Integration between the County’s GIS and CAMA system to synchronize data maintenance efforts across multiple land records databases
• Implementation of the Parcel Builder software suite for streamlined parcel maintenance, management of parcel number assignments and digital land transactions, and the batch creation of hard-copy cadastral maps.
