Tuesday, July 26th 2011

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) 3D Information Management (3DIM) Working Group is hosting a second 3D Summit focused on the current impact and future opportunities for open standards to better enable 3D geospatial practices. The summit will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado in conjunction with the OGC Technical Committee Meeting.

Building on the success of the 2009 3D Summit hosted at MIT, this industry gathering is open to anyone interested in 3D applications and standards that enhance interoperability and integration. Participants from industry-leading organizations around the world will engage in interactive discussions, lightning talks, and inspiring presentations.

Presentations on whole city 3D models, campus visualization, and indoor 3D models operating on platforms from server to mobile for industries as diverse as urban design and construction, consumer mass market, augmented reality, and more are welcome. What are the emerging best practices for data and services interoperability? Who is leading the way with technical innovation and market adoption? A hosted evening social will provide additional opportunity for networking with leaders in this expanding field.

Join the conversation! The 3D Summit is the best opportunity in 2011 to engage in 3D standards. See details of the summit here:

Participants are invited to submit a one paragraph abstract by August 12, 2011. See the online form here:

Two presentation formats are available:

Lightning Talk: 5 minutes on technical innovation, best practices, and case studies. No sales pitches.

Video Presentation: Up to 5 minutes showcasing latest innovations: HD format preferred.

Can't make it to Boulder? A short video presentation is great way to contribute to the conversation. All presentations will be posted to the new OGC 3D Summit YouTube Channel. Selected sessions will be shown during the program.

Submit an abstract today! Program organizers will review submissions and inform participants by August 12. Final content for videos will be due September 12.

The first 3DIM Innovation Award will be presented at the Summit.

Program organizers:

Scott Simmons, CACI and OGC 3DIM Chair

Carsten Roensdorf, Ordnance Survey, OGC CityGML Group Chair, OGC 3DIM co-Vice Chair Benjamin Hagedorn, Hasso Plattner Institut at the University of Potsdam, OGC 3DIM co-Vice Chair Tim Case, Wright-Pierce and former OGC 3DIM Chair

The OGC is an international consortium of more than 415 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
