Wednesday, October 12th 2011
NAVTEQ | Melbourne, Australia
Read More About: lbs, location-based services

-NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, will demonstrate the power of NAVTEQ® map data and location content at the OZRI 2011 User Conference in Melbourne, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre (stand #13) 12-14 October, 2011. NAVTEQ is a platinum sponsor of OZRI 2011.

The NAVTEQ stand will feature the NAVTEQ® map of Australia and New Zealand and key products/NAVTEQ-enhanced technologies for the Esri community, including:

NAVTEQ Transport™
NAVTEQ Transport is offered as part of the digital map and includes location data to support efficiencies in the transportation industry. Built specifically to fit the navigation needs of large commercial vehicles, NAVTEQ Transport incorporates more than 20 truck-specific road attributes such as physical and legal restrictions. These attributes are available for all the major highways throughout Australia.

NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns™
NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is a comprehensive database with information about average speed of travel for specific sections of roadways, allowing drivers to avoid typical congestion areas and rely on more accurate arrival time estimates. The product enables applications to calculate the most ideal route based on historical traffic flow patterns, which change for various times of the day as well as days of the week. Because it functions as an attribute of the NAVTEQ map, it can be immediately integrated into navigation systems and applications to enable more informed routing choices.

NAVTEQ Enhanced 3D City Models
Enhanced 3D City Models improve consumer guidance experience by making relevant buildings more realistic. NAVTEQ 2D/3D visual display content enables end users to more easily orient themselves in unfamiliar or complex situations. This content includes Enhanced 2D Footprints, 3D City Models with new application of texture, and will be demonstrated in the NAVTEQ stand using Geoweb3d technology, a 3D simulation and modeling platform that leverages the analytical power of ArcGIS Engine.

"This past year we have reached significant milestones in providing Esri users with access to NAVTEQ maps through a broad product portfolio," said Kirk Mitchell, vice president, NAVTEQ Sales. "With the continual enhancements of offerings such as NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns™, Point Addressing and NAVTEQ Transport™, we are building a local product suite that is increasingly relevant to the GIS community in the APAC region. By visiting our stand and speaking to a NAVTEQ representative, OZRI attendees will discover how NAVTEQ data can be easily integrated into Esri software applications."

Stand visitors will also learn about NAVTEQ’s innovative map build process, helping to ensure provide the delivery of the most accurate location data possible. In Australia and around the world, NAVTEQ builds its map by leveraging a unique set of data collection tools and technology, as well as expertise from NAVTEQ’s local team of geographic analysts.

Around the globe, Esri and NAVTEQ have a long-time business relationship, collaborating on the delivery of high value GIS and navigation solutions. The highly accurate NAVTEQ® map data, combined with Esri software, meets the spatial analysis needs of developers and solution providers across a wide variety of enterprise applications. Towards a Global Licensing Framework for Geospatial Data

Is it time for a global licensing framework for geospatial data? The GSDI Legal and Economic Working group thinks so and offered a presentation and a way forward at the GSDI 13 conference held in Quebec City in May. The effort aims to harmonize existing licensing without changing fundamental access policies and funding models and be compatible with the diferences in national legal systems. That's a tall order, but an important one as the world moves toward geodata sharing. Geoff Zeiss reports.
