Timmons Group Completes GIS Data Conversion for Gloucester County, Virginia
Timmons Group is excited to announce the completion of GIS Data Conversion for Gloucester County, Virginia. Gloucester County teamed with Timmons Group beginning in late 2014 to convert their GIS data to an Esri enterprise system. In addition to migrating AutoCAD layers to a multi-user geodatabase, Timmons Group converted their tax parcels to Esri’s Parcel Fabric.
Another deliverable of the project included reproducing very labor intensive map products with a data driven solution: Emergency Response Street Atlas, Tax Parcel Mapbook and several wall maps. Timmons Group delivered this project at the end of June and provided three (3) days of onsite training for the GIS editors and GIS management. Timmons Group configured and deployed several Esri Production Mapping tools to help maintain the GIS data: • Workflow Manager – utilized to manage versions and the overall editing lifecycle; • Data Reviewer – for quality control and assurance; reviewing and correcting data errors; • Task Assistant Manager – micro-level editing tasks; interactive help guide in ArcMap; • Data Driven Pages and Python – to recreate the mapbooks and atlas products; and • Other Esri add-ins – increase productivity and efficiency. One of the major accomplishments of this project was transforming the AutoCAD tax parcels into the Local Government Data Model of Parcel Fabric.
Timmons Group customized the sublayers and schema of the Local Government Model to fit Gloucester’s data and their goal with Parcel Fabric. Subdivisions, condos, right-of-ways, tax parcels, historical data, and other cadastral framework layers are all incorporated into the fabric and managed with Esri’s parcel workflow tools. This project has elevated Gloucester to become a model for other localities with the latest technology and data management tools. Timmons Group is currently developing Gloucester’s GIS website and helping their Environmental group collect and document stormwater BMP points for historical reporting to DEQ. “We’re very happy with the level of professionalism and expertise that Timmons Group has brought to this project. With our new workflows and tools our editing process, especially for addresses, has been cut in half. And we have become a regional GIS-trailblazer,” said Rita Taylor, GIS Coordinator at Gloucester County.
