Advanced distribution management system will enhance smart grid capabilities on New Zealand’s north island

- Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it will provide New Zealand’s Unison Networks Limited with its first-class advanced distribution management system (advanced DMS) to support the utility’s increasing investment in smart infrastructure.

Unison will use Telvent technology to replace many of its existing systems, combining energy management into a single integrated platform. This advanced system will include SCADA, distribution management and outage management functionalities, and will provide the core technology for Unison to modernize its electric grid now and in the future.

With Telvent’s solutions, Unison will have the ability to optimize its smart grid capabilities through the analysis of real-time data and self-healing automation. The integrated system and unified data analytics will provide valuable time and cost savings, negating inefficiencies of having to perform operations on multiple platforms. Additionally, with just one system to maintain and monitor instead of four, Unison can provide greater network reliability to its customers.

According to Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “We are pleased to embark on smart grid development in New Zealand. Telvent continues to be a leader in systems integration and preparing the electric industry for a modern distribution grid.”

Telvent’s advanced DMS technology recently received a “strong positive” rating, the highest possible, from Gartner Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, in its March 2012 report “MarketScope for Advanced Distribution Management Systems.” The Telvent solution is deployed in more than 26 countries around the world and serves 68 million utility customers.
