The University of Utah receives accreditation for its geospatial program.

Herndon, VA- August 30, 2012 The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation USGIF proudly welcomes The University of Utah as its 7th accredited collegiate geospatial intelligence program. The University of Utah’s Department of Geography, with support from the College of Social and Behavioral Science, has achieved USGIF accreditation for its Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program.

“The University of Utah's freshly accredited Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program adds another top school to USGIF's strong and growing community of collegiate partners,” said Dr. Max Baber, USGIF Director of Academic Programs. “The Utah program leverages the University's established strengths in quantitative analytics – spatial statistics, geovisualization, GIS, remote sensing and geocomputation – to prepare a new generation of geospatial analysts for real world problem-solving.”

Collegiate geospatial intelligence certificate programs accredited by USGIF complement a variety of scientific disciplines and add value to undergraduate and graduate degrees. USGIF accreditation is the first of its kind within the broader geospatial community, cultivating the next generation of geospatial analysts for national security and beyond. These accredited geospatial intelligence certificate programs provide quality assurance to employers that students are proficient across a breadth of scientific and technological competencies.

To date, USGIF has accredited seven collegiate Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Programs: University of Utah, George Mason University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Missouri–Columbia, University of Texas at Dallas, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Schools interested in pursuing accreditation for their geospatial intelligence program can contact Dr. Max Baber at max(dot)baber(at)usgif(dot)org for more information. Curriculum guidelines, requirements, applications and additional information are available on USGIF’s website at http://www.usgif.org.
