Wicker Building Supply Reduces Idling by 80 Percent with NexTraq Fleet Tracking

– NexTraq, the value leader of GPS vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions, today announced that its client, Wicker Building Supply, was able to significantly reduce vehicle idling time, leading to reduced fuel expenses fleet-wide. Additionally, with the use of Fleet Dispatch and in-vehicle Garmin devices, Wicker Building Supply was able to improve driver navigation and communication out in the field.

Steven Melton, General Manager of Wicker Building Supply, said, “We immediately saw an 80 percent decrease in idle time using the Idle Report in the NexTraq Fleet Tracking platform.” He adds that he purchased the solution, not because he didn’t trust his employees, but that they probably didn’t realize how much time they spent idling, wasting fuel and producing harmful emissions.

Additionally, he was able to track employees that were using company vehicles for personal business. Melton notes that’s the exception with his employees rather than the rule, saying, “We didn’t purchase the fleet tracking solution to come down on our employees, but rather to correct inappropriate behavior. There have been no issues since they knew it was installed.”

Melton also implemented the Fleet Dispatch application so drivers can receive voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions, increasing customer service by providing accurate ETAs. With the dispatching functionality, communication between the office and his employees in the field has been simplified and improved.

Mike Scarbrough, CEO of NexTraq, said, “Our Idle Report is one of the most popular reports for our customers. The ability to track idling benefits our customers in numerous ways; the most popular benefit is a significant reduction in fuel expenses. Some of our customers report a 20 percent reduction in fuel expenses and with gas prices continuing to rise, that’s a considerable amount of money saved.”
