Education is key in meeting the needs of the geospatial labor force in the next 10 years, when over 300,000 professionals will be needed to fill jobs. But it all starts in the classroom.

This webinar is designed to introduce educators to the model course outlines and the curriculum assessment tools being developed at the GeoTech Center, and explain how they can use these tools to educate and train students with the knowledge, skills and abilities the geospatial technology industry needs.

The GeoTech Center is nearing completion of its most ambitious research yet—the Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM) GIS Certificate and Course Curriculum Development Project.  The goal of this project is to create a complete model certificate for GIS technicians, based on the GTCM.

The certificate and its individual courses are a direct result of the Center’s work in developing the GTCM for the Department of Labor, as well as its own more detailed Meta-DACUM analysis of GIS technicians nationwide.  The project will result in a series of model course packs that educators at all levels of education - secondary, college and university - can use to develop a detailed GIS course that will meet the explicit needs of industry.
