Candice Luebbering

Geographer l Cartographer l Maker l PhD l GISP

Candice Luebbering is a geospatial enthusiast, geographer, and entrepreneur, all rolled into one. Originally from Missouri, she began her educational career at Truman State University with a Bachelors in Sociology and Anthropology, then moved on to Virginia Tech for a Masters and PhD in Geography. Candice went on to teach human geography, cartography, and map reading courses.

Her degrees and passions led her to do research, outreach, and membership services at the American Association of Geographers. She’s particularly proud of her work leading the GeoMentors program as a K-12 outreach effort. Luebbering briefly served as Executive Director for GISCI before moving to full-time entrepreneurship at All Mapped Out, a small business centered on geography and cartography inspired decor from her current home in Washington DC with her sidekick, a little senior Boston Terrier named Alamo.

With her childhood experiences in discovering and repurposing 'old' things (scouring through antique malls, farm auctions, and garage sales), it’s easy to see how geography and giving new life to old maps feel like home. She says, “Maps, bikes, and tea are my triumvirate of happiness and if I ever get the chance to return to the South Island of New Zealand, I may stay forever.”

She loves sharing geography and GIS with all audiences, and is elated to be lending her voice to DirectionsMag.
