Dewberry Welcomes Environmental Expertise of Mike Mathews

Senior environmental scientist will support firm’s northwest Florida clients

Fairfax, VA—July 13, 2017

Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, announced that Mike Mathews has been hired as a senior environmental scientist in the firm’s Panama City, Florida, office.

Mathews joins the firm with nearly 12 years’ experience in the field of environmental regulation and permitting with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). In this role, he managed the permitting, compliance assistance, and enforcement team; planned and coordinated the review, analysis, and decision-making process for agency actions; consulted with public agencies on the use of sovereign submerged lands; and made recommendations during compliance assurance inspections.

As a senior environmental scientist for Dewberry, Mathews is responsible for completing permitting compliance conditions; documenting and reporting field investigations and analyses; preparing plans, specifications, maps, exhibits, and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals; and performing technical work and development of project execution strategies. He is currently conducting an environmental regulatory review for the Lower Bridge Boat Ramp project in Wakulla County as well as reviewing the project design for compliance with FDEP’s Environmental Resource Permitting requirements. He is also providing environmental regulatory oversight for the County Road 69A project in Calhoun County, and reviewing the design for compliance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ permitting requirements.

Mathews earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the Florida International University (2004). He is a certified National Pollution Distribution Elimination System Inspector, and a member of the Association of State Wetland Managers, American Water Resource Association, and the Society of Wetland Scientists.
