Sharing is Caring

Dallas, Texas November 30, 2016  Carte Diem Press (CDP), the educational curriculum press division of GISetc, announced that Chris Bunin, co-author of Mapping U.S. History With GIS: Jamestown to Appomattox, is the Secondary Outstanding Teacher of the Year awarded by the National Council for the Social Studies. Mr. Bunin will be presented with his award this weekend in Washington D.C. at the National Council for the Social Studies annual conference.

This award is the second in two years for Bunin. In August of 2015, Mapping U.S. History with GIS: Jamestown to Appomattox was also awarded the Geography Excellence in Media award from the National Council for Geographic Education. The book brings student-tested GIS lessons to the history classroom while getting students thinking about patterns and the whys of where, with a focus on the geography and movement behind the historical story.

Chris Bunin teaches Geospatial Technologies, Advanced Placement Human Geography, and World History at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Virginia and was interviewed by students and the local news station. John Hobson, an Instructional Coach at the school, he said, “He’s putting his students in real world situations using in particular GIS technologies to solve everyday problems,” when asked what he thought of Mr. Bunin and the award, Bunin indeed uses innovative approaches to teach and support inquiry and align with the teaching standards.

Carte Diem press would like to congratulate this talented author and teacher. Chris Bunin is a shining light in integrating geospatial technologies to teach content to secondary students.
