Nobel Systems and the Bayawan Water Celebrate GIS Day by Sponsoring an Educational Session at Negro Oriential State University.

Nobel Systems and the Bayawan Water District of the Philippines will celebrate GIS Day on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. The two organizations will sponsor a GIS Day presentation at NORSU (Negro Oriental State University) in Bayawan, the Philippines.

Nobel Systems has shown an innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization, and thought leadership through geographic information system (GIS) technology in the field of GIS / IoT cloud solutions for utilities.

The Bayawan Water District utilizes GIS and Nobel's GIS-based billing system in the management and provision of potable clean water to Bayawan City in the Philippines.

Origins of GIS Day

First proposed by consumer advocate Ralph Nader to Jack Dangermond of Esri, GIS Day was founded in 1999 to demonstrate how geographic intelligence affects everyone.

The celebration takes place during Geography Awareness Week, which was created by the National Geographic Society to promote awareness and education about geography and geospatial issues.

Educating Students About GIS

On Nov. 14, Nobel Systems and the Bayawan Water District will give a presentation to NORSU students explaining GIS. The students will use printed maps and work on identifying landmarks within Bayawan City. There will also be a real-life demo of entering GIS data on an iPad using Nobel Systems’ GeoViewer.

“We want to get them excited about collecting data,” said Michael Samuel, Nobel Systems President.

Nobel Systems is a California Corporation providing cutting-edge GIS technology to about 20 municipalities in the Philippines. The Bayawan Water District is one of the first users of Nobel’s GIS-based billing system, which is now under implementation.

The Negro Oriental State University of Bayawan, Philippines, provides “advanced education, higher technological, professional instruction and training in the fields of arts, sciences, education, commerce, agriculture and forestry, and fishery and other related fields of study.” Its graduates excel in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and geodetic engineering.

The Bayawan Water District has worked with Nobel Systems in implementing a comprehensive water quality monitoring system to provide the citizens of Bayawan city clean, potable drinking water twenty-four hours per day.

“We need to discover and explore the benefits of GIS,”  Samuel said.

This November, Nobel Systems and Bayawan Water District will join hundreds of organizations from North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia in hosting gatherings that will serve to ignite the imagination of the future geospatial innovators who will move the planet forward using GIS.
