Munich, Germany, Release: April 4, 2019.  For Immediate Release

AED-SICAD, Battery Ventures’ core portfolio company in the geographic-information systems (GIS) market, has completed the acquisition of Geocom Group, a provider of GIS technology for markets including utilities, transport and logistics.

Under its previous ownership by Esri Deutschland GmbH, Geocom—whose main offices are in Burgdorf, Switzerland and Kranzberg, Germany,—built a leading market position. Under the acquisition, all assets, people and customer contracts of Geocom AG in Switzerland and Geocom GmbH in Germany will be merged with AED, a fellow GIS company serving the utilities and public-sector markets.

Geocom was founded in 1995 and serves several hundred customers. It is regarded as a preferred partner for GIS in the cadaster, utility, industrial-plant management, transport and logistics markets. The fast and effective integration of Geocom applications within existing corporate processes contributes enormously to information and planning security and helps drive efficiencies in customers’ organizations. All Geocom solutions are based on the market leading ArcGIS platform from Esri and are therefore highly compatible with most customers’ current IT infrastructure.

“We are looking forward to cooperating closely with AED-SICAD on the next generation of solutions for our common market segments,” said Geocom CEO Tim Börner. “Together we will be even stronger to supply leading edge technology and solutions which fit our customers’ business processes.”

Added, Dr. Holger Schade, the CEO of AED-SICAD: “For AED-SICAD this is the next logical step in the implementation of our growth strategy. The acquisition of Geocom helps us to expand our market reach and to optimize our common development, sales and marketing efforts. The fit with Geocom is very strong, as our approach to the market, our technology base and our corporate culture is highly similar.”

“At Esri Deutschland, we are convinced that powerful GIS solutions need a broader industry context in Europe, and globally. Together with Battery Ventures and AED-SICAD, Geocom’s growth opportunities are excellent and sustainable. This is part of our One Esri strategy and brings more value to customers”, explains Jürgen Schomakers, managing partner of Esri Deutschland GmbH.

The combined AED-SICAD/Geocom entity will serve more than 10,000 end users mainly in Europe but also in a number of selected countries on other continents. Its primary product brands include UT for ArcGIS, LM for ArcGIS and GEONIS.
