National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) Project nominated for Digital Collaboration Award

Project now moving into Phase 2

Cambridge, UK, 18th June 2020, (www.1spatial.com) 1Spatial, the global geospatial software, solutions and business applications company, is delighted to see the fantastic efforts of the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) team being recognised through their nomination for the Digital Leaders Cross-Sector Digital Collaboration Of The Year award – very well deserved and there is still time to vote.

The National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) will be the UK's first comprehensive underground assets map. Achieving a national underground assets register will help prevent accidental strikes of underground pipes that risk lives, cause havoc for residents and costs the UK economy £1.2 billion a year.

1Spatial is collaborating with the Greater London Authority (GLA) on London’s Underground Asset Register (LUAR), one of two regional pilots of the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) programme. NUAR has been funded by the Geospatial Commission to create a digital map of the utilities and pipes underground, in order to test the feasibility of creating this on a national scale. The project has been a combined effort from the Geospatial Commission, Ordnance Survey, Greater London Authority and more than 35 Local Authorities, utility companies and asset owners.

The GLA has successfully delivered Phase 1 of LUAR, which provided a pilot platform for transforming utility asset data into the NUAR data model. 1Spatial has been involved since the start of the project and has now been awarded a contract to continue working with the GLA to provide the LUAR data transformation platform into Phase 2 of the pilot.

If you want to hear more about this project, please join the Unlocking Value – delivering the National Underground Asset Register webinar, hosted by Geospatial Commission this Friday at 2:00pm BST.

Claire Milverton, CEO, 1Spatial, commented;

“We are excited to continue working with GLA to deliver such an important project and congratulate the NUAR team for their nomination for Digital Collaboration of the Year award. Our experts have enjoyed collaborating with the rest of the project team and we are very proud of what we have contributed so far and for being selected for phase 2 of the pilot. Our approach to data transformation, which is designed for agility, flexibility, scale, complexity and managing uncertainty has been fundamental to the project.”
