Looking beyond current missions, the two companies have sealed a deal to distribute data products and software applications derived from the forthcoming PAZ-2 radar satellites, while also deepening their long-running cooperation in the global market for orbital radar sensing.

Radar Satellite Constellation With TerraSAR-X

At a high-profile industry forum in Belgium’s capital, formal steps were taken to prolong the arrangement that enables sales of PAZ observation satellite sensor outputs in combination with Germany’s TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X spacecraft, a joint setup that has operated since 2018.

SAR and Market Demand

Speaking about the plan, Eric Even, a senior leader at Airbus Defence and Space, said the alliance will stretch the state of the art in Synthetic Aperture Radar and bring fresh offerings addressing intelligence and surveillance needs alongside commercial use cases.

In a similar vein, the chief executive, Miguel Ángel García Primo of Hisdesat, said reinforcing the commercial tie-up safeguards the continuity seen since 2018 and will broaden the uptake of SAR outputs—usable in any weather—relative to alternative sensing tools.

Government Satellite Program PAZ-2

Under the guidance of Spain’s defense authorities, a next-generation initiative—known as PAZ-2—ranks among the most advanced orbital monitoring efforts and is carried out with Hisdesat. The effort involves two twin spacecraft that will take over from PAZ—operational since 2018—while boosting capability. Spain’s department responsible for Industry and Tourism provides the financing, and the primary recipient of high-resolution radar imaging and services will be the nation’s defence ministry.

By July 2025, the build contract for the pair of new satellites had been placed by Hisdesat with Airbus Defence and Space.
