Magazine Issue Overview

This guide from GPS World is the only all-inclusive, continually refreshed directory highlighting leading providers across multiple sectors in GNSS and navigation, covering products, services, and systems used for mapping and positioning. Listings commonly span GNSS/GPS receiver and timing boards (including OEM receiver boards and evaluation kits), multi-band and multi-constellation designs, RTK- and PPP-capable boards, low-power and embedded options, and ruggedized form factors, along with key board features such as update rate, supported frequencies/constellations, interfaces, and correction support.

Look for the newest edition in the GPS World March/April Buyers Guide Issue, released in March and carried through April, featuring core directory sections on GNSS receivers and modules, antennas, correction services, mapping/positioning solutions, timing and synchronization, inertial and integrated navigation, and test and measurement. To access the directory online, use the GPS World site navigation to open the Buyers Guide, then browse categories or search for providers and offerings.

Submitting a company listing is straightforward, and more than 40 organizations are already included and ready for contact through our online platform. A typical digital listing includes:Organization name.Contact information.Product/service category.

GPS is the U.S. Global Positioning System, while GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is the umbrella term for satellite navigation systems, including GPS as well as other constellations such as Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, and QZSS. In practice, GPS refers to one constellation, while GNSS refers to multi-constellation positioning for broader availability and, often, improved performance in challenging environments.

GPS trackers work by receiving signals from navigation satellites to estimate position, then sending that location data to a user or platform through a communications link such as cellular or satellite connectivity. Common use cases include vehicle and fleet monitoring, asset and equipment tracking, personal safety check-ins, and locating high-value items.

Benefits of using a GPS tracking device can include improved asset tracking, enhanced personal safety, fleet management efficiency, real-time location updates, and theft prevention and recovery.

Satellite-based GPS trackers can be effective for global asset tracking, particularly where cellular coverage is limited, because they can report from wide geographic areas using satellite networks. Advantages include broader coverage and resilience in remote regions, while limitations can include higher device and service costs, lower message frequency, increased power use, and reduced performance when the device is obstructed (for example, indoors, under dense canopy, or in metal enclosures).

When choosing a GPS unit, key factors typically include accuracy, battery life, durability, connectivity options, and the intended use case (such as hiking, marine navigation, professional surveying, vehicle use, or embedded integration).

Phone navigation can offer advantages such as convenience, frequent software updates, and access to live data services, but disadvantages may include battery drain, overheating or screen visibility issues, and reliance on cellular service for some features. Portable GPS devices can offer advantages such as dedicated hardware, strong sunlight readability, and purpose-built features for specific activities, but disadvantages may include upfront cost, carrying an extra device, and varying update policies depending on the model.
