Viridien Seismic Reimaging Program in Malaysia

With regulatory backing from PETRONAS, a joint effort with Viridien sets in motion an initiative across the hydrocarbon-rich Balingian–Luconia–Baram basins. In this Southeast Asia setting, the goal is to refresh the subsurface picture.
Geological Data and Imaging Approach
Beginning in January 2026, the company plans to overhaul about 44,000 square kilometers of historic three-dimensional seismic surveys by first performing a province-wide post-stack integration that yields early volumes and directional insights for subsequent high-end phases. To start, clearer illumination is sought, with intricate layers of carbonate addressed later in the workflow, while long-standing velocity and attenuation issues are tackled to support exploration choices across the basin.
Funding and Early Access
Advance funding is open now, giving initial participants priority access to preliminary data and to upgraded imaging products delivered via Viridien’s platform and regional expertise in the region. Designed to open underexplored plays and deliver decision-ready material for mapping and prospect screening, the initiative is run alongside PETRONAS through Malaysia Petroleum Management.Speaking on the project, Dechun Lin of Viridien, who leads Earth Data, said insights drawn from the company’s GeoVerse database and long-running regional projects will produce a clearer and more dependable subsurface view, which in turn raises interpretation confidence and sharpens prospect identification.
