Rod Thompson

Rod is currently Principal Computer Systems Officer (technical advisor) at the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Queensland, Australia. He was instrumental in the design and development of the Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB), one of the first to include spatial objects within the relational model. He is currently involved in the development of the Resource Information Management Environment (RIME) for the Department. This provides a repository for topographic and thematic mapping data, and has a strong metadata component based on the ISO standard IS19115. Prior to that, he developed a system to record and model the electricity supply network for the South East Queensland Electricity Board. He has also developed systems for P&O (New Zealand), The State Government Insurance Office (Queensland), Honeywell (Canberra), and the Pine Rivers Shire Council (Queensland). He is currently undertaking postgraduate research into spatial data representation with the University of Queensland, in association with the Delft University of Technology.
