Fugro’s new Lithuanian laboratory speeds up local soil testing
Vilnius, Lithuania, 17 September 2020
Fugro has opened a state-of-the art laboratory in Lithuania, boosting its soil testing capabilities in the region. Previously, the Lithuanian office had relied on third parties or Fugro laboratories in other countries to provide soil testing results, but now a full range of testing, including particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, particle density and determination of organic matter, will be offered onsite, significantly improving project delivery times.
The laboratory forms part of Fugro’s Lithuanian office, which has relocated to the centre of Vilnius, where a team of 15 project engineers, geologists and technical staff support a range of geotechnical services, including drilling, cone penetration testing, and in-house reporting, for construction companies and government institutions. Fugro plans to develop the laboratory further, first by introducing advanced soil testing techniques such as compression and shear testing, and later by gaining accreditation to perform tests on international land and marine projects.
Alvydas Uždanavičius, Fugro’s Country Manager for Lithuania, said: “The ability to perform classification soil testing in our own laboratory means delivery of vital Geo-data results to clients is now within one or two weeks of the fieldwork, rather than four. We’re pleased to be able to offer our local clients a quicker service to support their important infrastructure site characterisation projects.”
