Aethon Aerial Solutions Inc. announced the acquisition of the assets, intellectual property, and selected contracts of RME Geomatics, a remote sensing and LiDAR mapping company based in Ottawa and Calgary. As part of the agreement, RME’s existing staff will join Aethon and operate as the company’s Ottawa division, supporting the deployment of next-generation UAV and helicopter-based LiDAR acquisition systems.

The new division will focus on advanced inspection and mapping services for power line, pipeline, and transportation corridor infrastructure, while continuing to deliver traditional engineering and surveying solutions. By integrating RME Geomatics’ operational experience and UAV platform expertise—particularly the Renegade UAV system—with Aethon’s sensor technologies and cloud-based processing capabilities, the company aims to accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous, beyond-line-of-sight aerial inspection systems.

According to company leadership, the acquisition strengthens Aethon’s ability to compete in a rapidly evolving airborne remote sensing market where advances in LiDAR sensors, automated processing, and autonomous flight technologies are driving demand for integrated acquisition and analytics services. Combining the engineering resources, research and development capacity, and operational infrastructure of both organizations enables Aethon to expand service delivery across North America while pursuing global infrastructure inspection and mapping opportunities.

Aethon’s growing fleet of airborne and UAV-based LiDAR systems, supported by cloud-based data processing platforms and an affiliate partner network, positions the company to provide end-to-end inspection, mapping, and analytics solutions for utilities, telecommunications providers, and engineering organizations seeking faster, safer, and more cost-effective geospatial data collection.
