Continental Mapping Expands Federal Leadership with GEOINT Veteran Nathan Spangler
Continental Mapping has reinforced its federal services division with the appointment of Nathan Spangler as Vice President – Federal Services. The hire continues a year marked by sustained organizational growth and expanding engagement across the defense and intelligence communities.
Spangler brings more than 14 years of experience within the GEOINT sector. His career began in technical production roles, including Product Order Technician and Quality Control Analyst at predecessor firms of DigitalGlobe. From there, he transitioned into the compilation phase of the geospatial intelligence workflow, steadily advancing into leadership positions that culminated in his recruitment by Continental Mapping.
Deep Expertise in NGA Programs
An alumnus of Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University), Spangler earned a Bachelor’s degree in Cartographic Sciences. He later completed a Master of Science in Geography at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to a broad range of deliverables under the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Foundation GEOINT Content Management (FGCM) contract. His experience spans multiple product lines, including Topographic Line Maps (TLM), Urban Feature Data (UFD), International Charting Map (ICM), Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP), content management services, and cartographic products ranging from 1:5,000 to 1:5,000,000 scales.
Leadership Vision and Emerging Technologies
Spagler described the move as an opportunity to apply his GEOINT expertise and long-standing industry relationships in a new strategic context. In addition to overseeing Department of Defense and Intelligence Community initiatives, he will lead and mentor geospatial professionals across the company’s Sun Prairie and St. Louis operations.
He also expressed particular interest in Continental Mapping’s expanding portfolio of mobile and terrestrial lidar projects. According to Spangler, unmanned aerial systems represent one of the most dynamic developments in remote sensing, offering additional pathways for imagery and lidar data acquisition in support of federal clients.
The appointment aligns with broader organizational objectives under newly promoted Executive Vice President of Operations Raquel Charrois. Charrois noted that Spangler’s addition strengthens the company’s position for continued federal market growth.
Expanding Geospatial Capabilities
Headquartered near Madison, Wisconsin, Continental Mapping delivers comprehensive geospatial data development solutions. Its services encompass land surveying, aerial and mobile lidar acquisition, photogrammetric mapping, unmanned aerial systems, and advanced remote sensing technologies.
With Spangler’s leadership in federal services, the company enhances its depth in GEOINT production and strengthens its capacity to support evolving Department of Defense and Intelligence Community requirements.
