Global Mapper Selected for Enterprise Deployment Across French Armed Forces
Blue Marble Geographics, together with its France-based partner Alain Olivier Geomatique, announced that the Ministère de la Défense has entered into a three-year enterprise licensing agreement for the deployment of Global Mapper software across all branches of the French armed forces.
The agreement grants unrestricted access to Global Mapper’s geospatial data processing and analysis capabilities for both operational and support personnel. In addition to the core platform, the contract includes the Global Mapper LiDAR Module, the Global Mapper Software Development Kit (SDK), and comprehensive training and implementation services.
Enterprise-Scale Geospatial Capabilities
Global Mapper was selected for its combination of robust GIS functionality, cost efficiency, intuitive interface, and streamlined licensing structure—attributes that support rapid rollout in mission-critical defense environments. The platform is capable of importing, displaying, analyzing, and exporting nearly every common geospatial data format.
Its toolset supports dataset creation, editing, reprojection, format conversion, cropping, tiling, and mosaicking, even when working with large and complex files. The software’s 3D visualization and terrain analysis functions are particularly valuable for situational awareness, operational simulation, and mission planning across varied theaters of operation.
Advanced LiDAR and Custom Integration
With the inclusion of the LiDAR Module, military analysts gain access to specialized point cloud processing tools. These capabilities include automated ground classification, feature detection, reclassification workflows, and custom extraction routines designed to support detailed terrain modeling and infrastructure assessment.
The enterprise license also provides access to the Global Mapper SDK, enabling defense software engineers to embed spatial data visualization and processing tools directly into custom-built applications. This flexibility supports integration with existing military systems and tailored operational workflows.
Implementation and Training Support
To ensure effective adoption, Blue Marble’s application specialists—working alongside Alain Olivier Geomatique—will deliver customized on-site training sessions. The collaboration also includes development support services to facilitate efficient use of the SDK and optimize deployment across diverse defense units.
Patrick Cunningham, President of Blue Marble Geographics, noted that the agreement reflects growing recognition of Global Mapper as a powerful and cost-effective alternative to traditional GIS solutions. Alain Olivier emphasized that the enterprise license will streamline software availability and improve operational consistency throughout the Ministry’s various divisions.
