MIAMI and BOSTON, February 27, 2012 – Locaid and Wyless have entered into a strategic agreement to expand global location-based services (LBS) capabilities for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. Under the partnership, Locaid will deliver its Location-as-a-Service (LaaS) technology to Wyless customers and partners worldwide.

The integration will embed Locaid’s LaaS functionality directly into Wyless’s Porthos management platform. Porthos, recognized for its comprehensive M2M device management capabilities, will soon enable customers to access on-demand location information for Wyless-enabled devices operating across the United States and Europe. Through the collaboration, Wyless will extend location services to more than 120 countries supported by its global network infrastructure.

Seamless Location Access Through Porthos

A newly introduced service within Porthos will allow users to retrieve device location data directly through an application interface. This functionality supports customers seeking to integrate location intelligence into their own enterprise solutions without requiring separate GPS hardware, device modifications, application downloads, or additional user interaction.

By leveraging carrier-grade location technology, Wyless customers can incorporate verified device positioning into applications spanning healthcare, asset tracking, security, and entertainment. The approach eliminates the need for standalone GPS units and reduces deployment complexity across distributed device networks.

Strengthening Global M2M Managed Services

Dan McDuffie, CEO of Wyless, emphasized that the selection of Locaid was driven by the need for a scalable, globally capable location partner. As Wyless continues building a multi-carrier managed services ecosystem, integrating a robust location platform strengthens its competitive position in the expanding M2M marketplace.

Art Nava, Technical Services Director at Wyless, highlighted the added value that location verification brings to customer applications. The partnership enables location-enabled services without added hardware or software burdens, enhancing both operational efficiency and end-user experience.

Rip Gerber, President and CEO of Locaid, noted that Wyless’s established M2M platform complements Locaid’s global location infrastructure. He pointed out that demand for M2M solutions continues to grow and that meeting Wyless’s technical and business standards reflects Locaid’s ability to deliver scalable, carrier-integrated services.
