Enhancing Power BI Reports with ArcGIS Mapping Capabilities

ArcGIS for Power BI is a native mapping visual embedded directly into Microsoft Power BI, allowing users to incorporate geographic insight into dashboards and reports without leaving the Power BI environment. By combining business data with authoritative spatial content, organizations can better understand patterns, trends, and relationships tied to location.

As of early 2021, ArcGIS for Power BI supports Publish to Web, Embedded analytics, and Power BI Report Server, significantly expanding how and where map-enabled reports can be shared. These options make it possible to distribute interactive reports securely within an organization or embed them into internal applications and portals.

Bringing ArcGIS Content into Power BI

Users can seamlessly connect Power BI to their ArcGIS organization, enabling access to web maps, feature layers, and other spatial datasets. This integration ensures consistency between GIS data maintained in ArcGIS and analytics delivered through Power BI, reducing duplication and improving data reliability.

Viewing reports that include private ArcGIS layers is available to all ArcGIS user types, while creating and authoring maps requires a Creator user type or higher. This clear separation simplifies licensing decisions while maintaining flexibility for collaboration.

New Sharing and Deployment Options

Recent enhancements allow ArcGIS-powered visuals to be included in published web reports, embedded analytics, and on-premises Power BI Report Server deployments. These capabilities support a wide range of use cases, from executive dashboards to operational reporting environments with stricter data governance requirements.

ArcGIS for Power BI includes a rich set of tools for spatial analysis and visualization.
